The lamps, trashcans, cones, and chairs went back out this morning to mark parking spaces dug out of the snow this morning…but according to Meninio tomorrow will be the last day. A couple of weeks ago Mayor Meninio said that he’s only giving Bostonians 48 hours after a snow emergency to mark their spots in our decade old tradition. The Globe reported this weekend that he gracefully extended this limitation to four days,
he said residents can keep their claims on spots until 8 a.m. Wednesday. Then, city crews will start picking up parking space markers -- everything from paint cans to trash barrels to a snow-packed picnic basket -- that now line the streets in some neighborhoods.
"Four additional days after a snow emergency is sufficient time," he said at a news conference.
So that’s it. Tomorrow is your last day to put your bunk office chair out at the curb to mark your spot. Bostonist is pretty sure that it’s not really over, at least not where we live. Perhaps in the gentrified neighborhoods where they actually remove snow, but when Bostonist left this morning there were several cars still parked under a now melting 2 feet of snow. Take your chances if you’re saving a spot, they might take your favorite garbage can or busted lamp on Wednesday.
