Taste, Luxury, and Humor: Barneys not Loews

loews.gifThe Loews at Copley Place closed yesterday and is gone from our Fandango search already. Bostonist fondly remembers only a couple of weeks ago jamming into the crammed theatre to look up at the screen for a couple of hours watching Finding Neverland. I guess Boston should be really excited that Barneys will be opening up in a couple of months. We could go out and pay way to much for a movie at Copley, eat overpriced dinner (the food is good, servers are usually a bit snotty) in the South End and trot on over to Boylston for drinks to round out the $200 evening. When Bostonist first heard rumors of a closing we thought it would be nice if they closed down for a little while and renovated; put in new raked seats and sound – but then they might actually check your tickets and it’d be much harder for the kids to sneak into the R rated flicks. There remains the Loews at Boston Common and the AMC Fenway screening films in Boston. Sadly the reports indicate that it will be harder than ever to find your favorite independent film playing anywhere inside the city limits. Cambridge and Somerville beware - we’re crossing the river. Loews had a history of putting the indy movies over in Copley, reserving the blockbusters for the Boston Common location for the last couple of years…maybe it just means that SpongeBob won’t be around for quite as long of a run.
