No More "Missed Calls" on the T

map.gif
The MBTA announced this morning that they have started a project to offer cellphone service at 4 of their T stops. While Bostonist was always glad to grab an occasional signal at the Boylston T stop, this new project will provide signals at Park Street, Downtown Crossing, Government Center, and State Street, as well as the connecting tunnels and the "pedestrian viaducts"(huh?) MBTA Chairman claims that "...is not just a matter of convenience for customers" but it will allow us commoners to place complaints about the T and report safety issues. The plan should be in effect by fall 2005.
Bostonist welcomes this announcement with open arms and just hopes it works. InSite has been named the company in charge of this project; they have also installed this cellular system in casinos and convention centers around the country...but have they ever installed it in the oldest subway system in America? We have faith in them, but after the Big Dig fiaso, Bostonist has to question it.

we've had limited cell service in the subway here in san francisco, and it's great. i can't describe the giddy, gleeful feeling you get being able to make a call while in a tunnel. at last, technology is allowing us to become even more irritating to those around us.
