Okay, all of us cubicle slaves have almost made it through another week working for "the man." Since it is Thursday, what better way to celebrate such a feat than by hitting the local taverns/restaurants for some drinks, apps, and gossip about the new guy in Marketing. Bostonist loves its Happy Hour time (and would go each day after work in financially possible), so here a few random places to try for some post-work amusements.
The Elephant and Castle, located in the Financial District, is packed after-work with working stiffs in suits. No specials but lots of beers on tap at this faux Irish pub. Hit up either the Faneuil Hall or Columbus Avenue McCormick and Schmick's branch from 3:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. to take advantage of their $1.95 happy hour appetizers. These are "real" appetizers...quesidillas, buffalo wings, or a cheesburger with fries. How can you go wrong? If being "seen" is more important to you than saving some cash, venture over to Houston's or Davio's for some more expensive drinks and more "important" people. Looking for a good margarita? Well, Bostonist doesn't truly enjoy them over at the Cactus Club on Boylston, but the Coronas and half-priced apps are good. If you enjoy a sports-themed scene and don't mind traveling to South Boston for it, the Stadium has a nice set-up for big groups who want to check out anything on a flat screen TV. Half-priced appetizers until 7 p.m. help too.
Bostonist is always looking for a new haunt. Where do you and your co-workers like to head to at 5 p.m.?
[Editor's note: Bostonist was reminded that Massachusetts does not allow "Happy Hours" due to the state liquor laws. Most of the places listed above have special food prices since they can't reduce prices on alcohol. Bostonist still likes to call it "Happy Hour" even though it is not truly as happy as it once was...]

I like you. You like me?
I like to drink at VOX in Boylston after work.
I think Bostonist is as lame as women's rights.
You know that there's actually no such thing as Happy Hour in Boston, right? You were going to mention that it's technically illegal, and lower food prices are all you can expect, correct?
Or do you just not know much about Boston?
Pour House on Boylston in Back Bay is a good spot for giant beers great apps. Very low-key/casual though.
I guess I was I just more focused on leaving work at 5pm to meet up with some friends and forgot to mention that it is indeed illegal. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
The pretentious politicos, the Suffolk students, and the Hill hotties know there's only one place to go for Thirsty Thursday: The 21st Amendment.
Does Bostonist live in the suburbs?
When I have worked at large companies, I could always tell when someone who lived in the burbs chose the after-work destination.
Most of the suggested places suck. The only one worth mentioning, Cactus Club, is great only if you enjoy drinking with drunk BU students WHO DON'T WORK! So not sure why it appears on an after-work list.
BTW-Anyone who was not born and bred in South Boston and is stupid enough to go to any bar there deserves to be beaten up by Sully and his friends.
Thanks for the Happy Hour suggestions! I've been living in Boston for 3 years now and am tired of the same old scene.
grendel's den in Harvard has a happy hour special that i don't remember and am too lazy to look up. something like half-priced apps and some dinner specials. drinks aren't all that cheap though.
the tam in i guess the theater district has cheap beer.
the Beacon Hill hotties I know go to the confusingly named Harvard Gardens on Cambridge St on Beacon Hill.
it's also pretty cheap to buy a six pack and hang out with your favorite co-worker in public alley 41.
Elephant and Castle is an English pub, not a "faux Irish pub." Otherwise, nice work.
