Smashed at Barnes and Nobles

book.jpgTonight, Bolton native, Koren Zailckas, is discussing her highly-acclaimed first book, Smashed: A Drunken Girlhood. With her first sip at 14, emergency room visit at 16 to have her stomach pumped, and drunken college nights of waking up in someone else's bed the next morning, Zailckas stopped drinking at 22 and started writing her story. This is a cautionary tale for all women who drink, not necessarily who are alcoholics, but who have ever drank too many. She peppers the book with staggering statistics about how young women start to drink now (at age 12) and how advertisers, TV, etc. help move that trend along. Now at age 24, she no longer drinks and is travelling around the country sharing her story. She will discuss the book and sign copies at the Boston University Barnes and Noble in Kenmore Square. It starts at 7 p.m.

Poor girl. (The recovery, rather than the slow slide into dissipation.) I rather wish I could be there to heckle, politely, of course.
