Got Wood? How About Medeski and Martin?

MMW.gifHitting the road more than they’ve been in the studio has made Bostonist asking for bootleg tapes of Medeski, Martin, and Wood from our hippy friends. The trio has given us the classic jazz trio that we crave for culture and the amazing improvisational jams that we got used to at the Great Went. The rise and fall of the jam band in the 90’s has seen the over-commercialized Phish break up and jam band addicts asking "who’s the next Phish". Bostonist hopes it’s not Medeski, Martin, and Wood. We don’t want to buy a burrito when we go to their concert, we just want to wrap ourselves in some good groves and a set list that someone will inevitably translate onto some fan site. Medeski, Martin, and Wood play Avalon tonight. If you’re in it for the road trip check them out in Albany, N.Y. tomorrow night and in Burlington, Vt. on Saturday. They’ve been creating sweet tunes together since 1991, played with jazz legend John Scofield (on A Go Go), and continue to crank out funk inspired jazz or is it rock?

i think a hippy v. hippie battle would include a name the setlist for a random show competition, as well as a stank-off. there could be an essay portion with the question, "what would jerry think of today's touring jam band culture, and why is it impossible to find decent acid these days?"

    either way, everyone loses.

Dude, what? Jazz-inspired rock? Hippies? HIPPIES??!!! People who are in it for the road trip might want to consider staying in Burlington where the patchouli smell wafts a little stronger than in the Hub. Noodle-dancing and blonde dreadlocks are actually illegal in Boston Common accordingly to a little-known 1803 law, so BU students take notice.

Not a noodle-dancer or blonde-dreadlocker? Well then my friend, I hope you made a lot of money on your sell-out, poseur.
