Bubba the Wonder Lobster

lobster2.jpg Bostonist enjoys a nice lobster dinner now and then, especially when you can get such fresh seafood up here in New England. Well, the Atlantic has outdone itself again with the newest freak off the ocean floor: Bubba, a 22 lb. lobster caught off the coast of Nantucket. This 3 footer, thought to be around 100 years old, was sent to Wholey's, a fish market in Pittsburgh, where he has captured the attention of a lot of folks there. With lobster retailing at $14.98 a pound at the market, Bubba was selling for a whopping $350 to the lucky diner. Of course few have a pot that big to cook a 22 pound anything, so Bob Wholy, owner of the market, gave it to the Pittsburgh Zoo, who will eventually hand him over to the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, where Bubba will be at home among the sword swallowers, bearded ladies, and others in their "Odditorium." Of course PETA got involved and sent Wholey a letter demanding that Bubba be returned to the Atlantic. Unfortunately, it looks like this lobster is heading to an exhibition hall and not the ocean blue.
