Today the Red Sox will attend the traditional recognition ceremony at the Whitehouse for the World Champions. The players, owners, managers and president of the Sox will meet President G. W. Bush. He’s the first President since Woodrow Wilson that has seen the Red Sox win the World Series while sitting in office. Bush has some special connections with the Sox. Where the Curse befell the Sox after trading the Babe to the Yankee’s, Bush traded Sammy Sosa while he was an owner of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers haven’t played in a World Series since then. SportsLine reports that Johnny Damon hopes to secure an autograph from Bush, for his son.
"He knows every single president," Damon said. "His favorite, of course, is Zachary Taylor because he carried a sword. So I'm going to tell President Bush (to) start carrying a sword. He's going to have a stronger fan base."Bostonist wonders how much fanfare we would have seen if John Kerry was occupying the Whitehouse.

The Rangers hadn't played in any World Series before they traded Sammy Sosa either.
of course, the owners of the sox actively campaigned for Kerry during the election, so that should be fun.
To quote Rasheed Wallace when the Pistons were at the White House, "I didn't vote for him, I ain't got shit to say to him." Whereupon, Sheed took a pull of his blutonski and blew smoke in Bush's face.
Kerry could have congratulated his favorite player, Manny Ortiz.
