Flowers, Flowers Everywhere

floweropening3.gifOkay, Bostonist has never been one to have any interest in attending a flower show...lots of flowers, lots of older people, lots of boredom. But perhaps with the recent slamming of awful weather on the city, or the boredom of watching MTV all weekend, the New England Flower Show might just be the brightening up that Bostonist needs. Starting this Sunday, March 13th at the Bayside Expo and running thru Saturday, March 19th, this annual show sponsored by the Massachusetts Horicultural Society is attempting to drum up some new followers with events catering to a younger audience. Sure, they are planning on having the usual demos, lectures, and the "gardening gurus" for answering all your planting needs, but there are a few things that Bostonist wants to check out.
On Sunday, the theme is "Boston sports," which includes a 550 sq. foot replica of Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium, as well as team logos, all created in flowers. You could of course listen to Fenway's Director of Grounds, Dave Mellor, talk about you too can have your lawn looking like Fenway's grassy knoll. Oh, and even the World Series trophy will be on display for 2 hours that morning.
The flower show is hoping to drag those single ladies away from Happy Hour and into the show with a "Girls' Night Out" on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. Who knew a flower exhibit could include make-up tips, perfume samples, and the author of the book "You're Not That into Him Either" giving gals some tips on guys?
So, maybe seeing some flowers will get you excited for Sox season or open your eyes about the dating scene, but either way, the flower show might just get you smiling for Spring. The only downside to getting this happiness is the price: $20 a ticket. Ouch.
