Not Afraid of Snow

chefshat.gif
Don't let the threat of snow cause you to hibernate this weekend, here are some events to get you off the internerd and away from the TiVo.

Tonight in Somerville at the Independent, the Mash Ave party goes off on its regularly scheduled night. For those who don't know, a mash up is DJ Dangermouse's remix of Jay-Z's "99 Problems" with the Beatles "Helter Skelter" on the Grey Album. Next Friday, Solcofn from DC will be guest DJ'ing. And on the 29th, is the monthly party at River Gods.

Saturday night at Great Scott's, the Plan presents Maritime (ex-Promise Ring & ex-Dismemberment Plan), Codetta, and Bella Lea (ex-Denali). Maritime is Davey von Bohlen's (Promise Ring singer) new band and they will surely get your feet moving. 21+ 9pm $8

Sunday afternoon the 406 Club at Fenway Park hosts Project Place's HomePlate Chili Cook-off. The event showcases top chefs from Boston restaurants [including Gordon Hamersley (Hamersley's Bistro), Gabriel Frasca (Spire), Chris Douglass (Icarus), Tony Ambrose (Blackfin), Nookie (Oleana), Michael Gueiss and Tony Dedek (Aramark), and Ruth-Anne Adams (Casablanca)] vying to be the chili king. The winning recipe will be made available to the public at a Downtown Crossing pushcart by April 1, 2005. Mayor Thomas Menino will be on hand to kick off the event and chefs will be serving from noon until 2:00 pm. Ballots will be accepted until 2:30 with winners to be announced at 2:45 pm. Proceeds from the cook off help create job training opportunities for homeless individuals seeking permanent employment.
