If you are a "beer snob," then you have already hit up this Irish haunt out on Beacon Street. Located in Washington Square in Brookline, the Anam Cara Publick House is the real deal if you are looking to have some great beer to celebrate Ireland and all her glory. Walking into this cozy pub, there is a sense of medieval style with its heavy red drapes, but it also adorns its walls with beer memorabilia too. With a pretty big bar area and public tables and benches, there are many opportunities to strike up a conversation from beer connoisseurs to local B.C. students. Anam Cara has racked up the beer awards through the years due to its weekly lineup change of draft and bottled beers from around the world. Just look up at the chalkboards around the bar and you can choose from long list of choices, which all include where it was brewed and what kind of alcohol content it has (which sometimes helps explain why one beer is $10; it has 11.2% alcohol in it). The beer menu is extensive and can be overwhelming at first, but it always means there is a reason to return each week. Try a Ayinger Brau Weiss (hefeweizen) one week and a Bink Blonde (belegian pale) the next.
The food here is also great, with Bostonist often going back for their homemade veggie burger and fries. The staff is friendly and there is a sense of comradery in the place. You are all searching for the perfect beer, and with well over 100 beers to choose from, you might just find it here.
