Bostonist loves local writer Steve Almond for a couple of reasons. First off, he's a hustler and hilariously ubiquitous--open up a local newspaper, check out nerve, what have you, he's likely written something for the publication you're reading. A simplistic summation of his oeuvre--My Life In Heavy Metal, The Evil B.B. Chow and Other Stories, and the nonfiction Candyfreak--can boil his books down to the topics of sex and candy.
This weekend, you can probe the mysteries of literary sex at a Grub Street workshop taught by Almond. Entitled "Sex With Steve Almond", the Saturday workshop will examine quality sex scenes and you'll workshop some sex scenes of your own. Literary sex can be awful, (anyone remember Tom Wolfe and his "loamy loins"?)and the pursuit of an honorable, effective sex scene is a beautiful thing.
