What an Idiot!

book.gifBostonist always loves a bit of gossip now and then, so when the Boston Herald had a front page mention of a cheating Johnny Damon, we just had to read the blurb. Golden Boy Damon is loved for his playing out in the field and for his appearance by the female fans, but his ex-wife, Angie Vannice, is not loving him at all. The couple were high school sweethearts down in Orlando, and were married 11 years, having two kids along the way. Then, all of a sudden, they divorced and Johnny was sporting a new bride on his arm this past year. Well, not much was known about his previous marriage until now. The release of Damon's auto-biography, "Idiot: Beating The Curse and Enjoying the Game of Life" is next week and he has decided to devote some of the book to his ex-wife. According to the Herald's Inside Track column, Johnny was no angel: "Although Damon admits to being unfaithful, he said he was driven to it by his wife's nagging, her accusations and their constant battles." Damon goes into detail about the fights and cheating, but never spoke to Vannice about it. She of course now has an attorney so we'll have to wait and see how this all pans out. She did get in a dig though: "'It's hard to see someone succeed, win the World Series, have a book, have a new life with somebody else and for me and the kids to be an afterthought,' she said. 'But I put it all behind me and moved on. I know the truth. I'm the one who knows what he's really like without all that fame. I remind him of that and I guess he doesn't like it.'"
Nothing like a little bad boy publicity to get the book some press, huh? Johnny starts his book promoting next week, kicking off April 4th in NYC. He's making an appearance at Borders in Braintree on April 12th.
