Jimmy Love

fallon_2005_fox.jpgBoston Red Sox have long supported the Jimmy Fund as their official charity. Today Mayor Menino brings another Jimmy to the Hub. Jimmy Fallon will be given a key to the city later today in a ceremony officiated by Menino and Governor Mitt Romney. After Fallon’s six year stint on Saturday Night Live and countless portrayals of characters hailing from the Bay State Jimmy Fallon will be given the honor he deserves. Recurring characters portrayed by Jimmy Fallon such as Pat Sullivan, Patrick Fitzwilliam, and Romney’s personal favorite of Jarret the Hamphire College best friend of Gobi (Horatio Sanz) are attributed as initiation rights for Fallon as an honorary Bostonian. Mayor Menino said in a written statement "Jimmy Fallon has done a lot to honor Boston's tradition of Irish heritage and fanatic following of the Red Sox." Fallon’s upcoming release of Fever Pitch in which he co-stars with Drew Barrymore has propelled Fallon into the Boston honorary citizen hall of fame. An impersonated Southie accent and honor given to the Boston Red Sox victory last fall made Menino and Romney feel compelled to honor Jimmy Fallon for his contribution in glorifying Boston. The ceremony is to be held this afternoon at Fenway Park where Jimmy will not only be presented with a key to the city but will also receive the winning ball from the final game of the World Series 2004.

Today is April Fools Day and jimmy fallon, a native new yorker, will not be getting a key, just be making soccer fans mad for remaking thier movie into a baseball saga.

You've all been had! Kudos, Rob, on so easily turning this joke around on everyone... ha, they all really thought you were serious about believing this post. Hook, line, and sinker! Joke's on them! Right? Rob?

  • "...READ articles on the internets." Oh yeah, the internets! I heard there are some rumors on those internets.

  • honey bunny

it's amazing how many people don't actually READ articles on the internets. if they did, they would get the joke. but they didn't, like our friend Rob up there. makes me pretty sad.

Yes. April Fools, indeed. But all the same, Rob's got himself a point: Let's get some commentary on this site! What is this, a blog or a wordy straight-up sightseeing guide? And please, introduce yourself to Mr. Shorter Paragraphs. He really makes reading online helpful.

Nice! Ha! Perfect! There's something about Jimmy Fallon that makes one want to hit him. He's a little smug.

Rob, you understand that this is an April Fools Day story, right? I don't really understand the question that you ask...There isn't a publicity stunt here, nor recognition for Fallon. Bostonist made this shit up.

  • Rob

I'm curious to know what Jon, as a blogger, thinks about Boston giving Jimmy Fallon so much attention. Was Fallon made to wait too long for this kind of recognition or is it an unwarranted publicity stunt? Explain.
