Google Spells Maps it Out

maps_res_logo.gifLast week Google added satellite images to their recently released map service. Bostonist has been following the meme as it has wound around the web. The new technology, that’s not even new, just new to Google, has spawned many uses that we don’t think Google had originally intended. Unfortunately it looks as though Boston is a big pile of mud, most of the images must have been taken in about this time of year, the grass on the Common isn’t green. Google sightseeing seems to be the use most in line with how we think Google wanted it to be used. Check out Fenway. Then Google Memory Maps made the scene with folks mapping out their memories of hometown neighborhoods. Bostonist has spotted an entry for Cambridge and saralovering's own memories but the Hub could really use some greater representation. We wonder what J. Charles Swift will add to the memory maps; maybe some historical notes for us to ponder. But make sure you watch out, now that the maps are out there someone is bound to be coming your way.

My childhood wasn't spent in the Boston area, but some of my more recent Boston-area memory-maps can be found in my memorymap tagset on flickr.
