Sox Fan Loses Mind, Goes After Sheffield

tb-yanks.jpgMemo to Red Sox Nation — Let's please leave the "Idiot" distinction to the Sox players on the field. There must be some cosmic rule, written in stone by the Baseball Gods, saying that there can't be a Sox/Yanks series without some unbelievably screwy crap going down. Fights aren't uncommon when these two teams meet, that's certain. But in the past few seasons we, the fans, are starting to see some crazy shit go down. Sure, it has yet to escalate to Artest'ian proportions, but how long before it does? And of course, it's only when the Yankees come to town. Do fans act like this when the D-Rays (see figure 1.A) are in town? Oh hell no.

Last night gave us the latest earmark in the Sox/Yanks history book when a fan, Chris House, reached over the wall in right field and maybe (maybe not, who knows!?) took a swipe at Gary Sheffield. The first question that comes to Bostonist's mind - what kind of maniac goes after Gary Sheffield? Has this guy ever seen Sheff swing a bat?

A ripple effect from the fracas has been the argument as to what the intent of said fan was. On purpose or was it a mistake? Not since last election have so many people been polarized in their opinions. What do you think? The court of public opinion seems to be swinging towards the "intentional" side.

  • It didn't seem to be intentional to me, but who knows? More importantly, the rich fucks who sit along the baselines should learn to lean the hell out of the way instead of scrabbling for the ball, especially one still in play. last night's game had that eerie, threatening tension of many Sox-Yanks games, where you just knew something was going to happen...after Tito got ejected, I was just waiting for the other shoe to fall. God help Johnny Damon the next time they're in NYC...

I don't think anyone with any authority can say what the hell that fan was thinking. He probably doesn't even know. It's just a bizarre motion that the guy makes.

At any rate, it's an embarrassment. I almost wish Sheffield had clocked the guy.
