Whatta-town

Since Bostonist has this week off (thank you, April vacation), we decided to explore outside the city limits in a little place called Watertown. With a list of recommendations from a friend, Bostonist has been out exploring all that Watertown has to offer--like cheaper rents, great restaurants, and convenient location. Bordering Brighton and Cambridge, Watertown is close to the city, without all the crime, crazy people, ineffective local government, etc. that comes with living in those places. Today Bostonist strolled over to Coolidge Square to check out Cosmo's Ice Cream and Cupcakes, a great new addition to the already stellar offerings in that area. Bostonist initially cringed when asked to pay $2 for a cupcake, but it was totally worth it.

Cosmo's is right down the street from Deluxe Town Diner which gives the Rosebud in Somerville a run for their money. Coolidge Square also boasts the great Fastachi--An Opera of Nuts! (yes, that's the full title), which is where you go for...nuts. Any sort of nut you can imagine, Fastachi's got it. If alcohol's what you crave, H20-town has got that covered too. Bostonist loves the Halfway Cafe for its great food and cheap beer, and Tom's Busy Bee Pub is the only bar (except for Sunset Grill) that has Sea Dog Wild Blueberry Wheat Ale on tap all year round--truly awesome. One caveat--Watertown doesn't have train service, but express buses run from Harvard Square and Kennmore Square throughout the day and night. If you want to explore Watertown for yourself, this site is a great resource for the latest gossip and happenings about town (that's how we found out about Cosmo's). What are your favorite Watertown spots?

One spot you should check out is Wild Willy's Burgers. Near Watertown Square, it's totally off the fling flang. Their shakes and burgs are delicious. Be careful tho. It closes super early, like 8pm or something.

La Casa De Pedro in Watertown Square is amazing. Whatever you do, get the fried yucca as at least a side (it comes w/most entrees).

You can also get the 70 or 70A bus out there from Central.
