Massholes Hit NYC Theater Scene

gmail.jpgThe term "Masshole" is a loving term to describe those of use who live in this state..."Massholia" is the name of a rock 'n roll musical/comedy that opens May 6th in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Now before Bostonians get riled up at the thought of New Yorkers mocking us with the art of theater, Bostonist would like to point out that the show is written, produced and starring lots of Emerson grads, so they are quite familiar with the Boston culture. Sounding like the Boston-version of West Side Story (you know, the poor Fall River boy swooning over the rich chick from Cambridge), Massholia picks up on all things Boston: Red Sox, Salem Witches, Pilgrims, John Kerry, etc. Want more proof that the play knows Boston? There is a "Prove Your Knowledge" question on their website: "Why are jimmies better than sprinkles?"
The show runs through May 21st and tickets are $15 each; the May 15th performance is having a reception post-performance for the Emerson alum Nicole M. duFresne scholarship. (Nicole was killed this past January in an attempted robbery in NYC.) So even though the show is in NYC, add on a Fung Wah bus ticket and it's still cheaper than most seats at Fenway.
But Bostonist must ask: why not bring "Massholia" to the Massholes in our fair city?

good for them for doing a comedy show in honor of their dead friend. i've often thought of working in comedy as being pretty much on par as working with Amnesty International or Doctors Without Borders.
