Bostonist recalls as a child asking its parents on either Mother's or Father's Day each year: "Why isn't there a kid's day?" Of course, Mom and Dad were quick on their feet and answered "Every day is kid's day." Now looking back on that comment, every day is indeed kid's day. Well, tomorrow is "Take Your Daughter or Son to Work Day," where all parents are welcome to bring in their lovely children and show them how much fun work can be. Dry erase boards, post-its, and going out to lunch? Sounds like fun!
The day originally was started by the Ms. Foundation ten years ago and was referred to as "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day." Well, the little boys were feeling left out, so they have been included recently. Bostonist never thought anything negative about this "kid holiday" until today's article in the Wall Street Journal, which sums the day up as an annoying event. One very honest working stiff is quoted in the article saying, "We are lobbying for a 'Leave Your Child at Home Day,' in the hope of maybe one day a year getting something done at work." Another Wall Street trader added a note to the kids out there thinking about coming in to the office: "If you didn't know how to swear when you walked in at 8 a.m., you would be an expert by 8:15 a.m."
So if you see Junior at the copier tomorrow morning, be nice. The way things are going in the business world, they'll probably be your boss in a few years.
