Stuck in Traffic

traffic_mash_boston_2005.jpgBostonist, where have you been? Why, stuck in traffic of course.

In the "Urban Mobility Report" by the Texas Transportation Institute released on Monday ranks Boston as the 13th slowest commute. The statisticians stacked up the hours slowed or stalled in rush hour traffic in order to compute which of 85 major metropolitan areas was the worst. Bostonist thought that after $14 billion and counting that our travel problems would have been "dug out." Besides the 93 and the Pike, traffic has been slowing down on 495 as well. Yes, Bostonians have been priced out of Boston and are moving further and further into the suburbs. If the MBTA was a little more convenient perhaps it too could take some pressure off the roadways. If playing the helicopter game is more fun than watching Doug Meehan in the Fox chopper Google Map mash-up on traffic might be for you. Bostonist was reading the research buzz last week about the new mash-up (the public transit map is still much more helpful) and weren’t really interested until we heard the news this week that the commute in Boston really was bad. The new mash up maps incorporate that smooth cartoon-like google map with the latest traffic information superimposed in icon form on top of the map. Granted, this has existed for some time from Yahoo! Bostonist just likes to click and drag.
