Bostonist recently came across two articles about those Bostonians we love to hate here in the Hub. From politicians to athletes to the handful of Hollywood stars, both lists give a good idea of who residents have heard enough about. Sure, we celebrate like no other city, but we bond best when joining in a group hatred for a Boston personality, don't we?
After seeing the New York Press' "50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers" list, Boston.com decided to ask their readers who would make their Most Loathsome list here in Boston. Well, the list isn't that surprising to Bostonist. Here are the top ten results:
10. Mitt Romney
9. Ben Affleck
8. Cardinal Bernard Law
7. Tom Finneran
6. John Kerry
5. Ted Kennedy
4. Tom Menino
3. Howie Carr (WRKO)
2. Matthew J. Amorello (Big Dig Big Wig)
1. Mike Barnicle
Bostonist was surprised that overexposed Affleck wasn't higher in the ranking, but we understand that when up against the politicos here in the city, Ben is just a little blip on the radar of loathing. MSN also had a column today about one resident's views on those Boston-based celebs he could have done without:
New Kids on the Block
Bobby Brown
CT from MTV's "Real World: Paris"
Jay Leno
"Boston Rob" from Survivor
Ben Affleck
Bostonist must admit that Boston Rob is too much. He has sure come a long way from his days of bartending at "The Place" to his wedding being televised on CBS this month, but did CBS execs have to slap on "Boston" to his name? So now that others have thrown their opinions into the ring, who's a Bostonian you love to hate?

Democratic Primary Debate at WGBH: Transcript Time!

I know this is nerdy, but we should wonder about a survey that tells us we hate people whom we keep electing. I suppose it could be that we elect them because they're the least awful candidates, or it could be that our feelings about them have changed since we voted (see e.g. Mitt), but Ted Kennedy? I thought everybody loved him. I mean, aside from the boozing, the womanizing, the possible killing, and the being-wildly-out-of-touch-with-the-American-mainstream (which I actually like), what's not to love?
i wouldn't say Ted Kennedy isn't much more out of touch with the american mainstream than w. bush is.
what the heck is wrong with Tom Menino? yeah he doesn't speak very well, but i think that's kind of cute. he's more loathsome than a guy who covered up 30 years of child sexual abuse?
i suppose Albert DeSalvo is a little too easy?
Oh, criminy. Real Bostonians would put Bernie & Phyl at the top of any list, if only for that jingle.
How about this guy
Okay, I know this is a 2+ year old page, but...you did link us to it. Teddy is much much less out of touch than W. Teddy was at the Sox vs. Orioles with Patrick and some grandkid. I suppose the grandkid was the designated diver and I'm not sure if Teddy got Tina Cervasio's digits.
Also that top 10 must be updated. Mike Barnicle shouldn't be on it. Did we forget Schill or Jeremy Jacobs?
