Star Wars Ashore

Bostonist went down to the Loews Boston Common last night to catch that space odyssey film that everyone has been talking about. Yeah, that’s right Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Much to our dismay the show had been cancelled in lieu of the little known Lucas film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Honestly we really did go hoping to catch Hitchhiker, we even checked Fandango. Seeing as they still had a couple thousand seats left for the 8:40 p.m. show, five digital screenings ran all day, we thought we might check it out rather than wait for the overpriced DVD bundle to hit shelves in the trilogy form.

small05202005.jpeExpectations of the first day run of Star Wars Episode III: Lot’s of guys running around in costumes with their best mock up of a light saber. With MIT just over the river we actually were hoping that someone would be able to fashion something really good. MIT does make a mean disco floor. Unfortunately comic book guy wasn’t out for the show last night, but a Princess Leia did inspect our tickets.

So the "enthusiasts" weren't out, there was only one Leia, but 3,100 crewmembers from the USS John F. Kennedy made their way over to the Boston Common after porting in South Boston. Quite littered, in their gleaming white uniforms, were the sailors throughout the city last night. The picture posted here, taken by Dave Goldman for the Boston Herald, is a close to a Chewie/Sailor shot we could come by (sorry Small family, the lighting on the backs of your heads is just perfect). Bostonist does have two questions for the guys ashore in the Hub this weekend: 1. How much bleach does a 27-story ship use? 2. Do your cell-phones work on board (and at sea) or only when you are clogging the entryway to the Chinatown T station?

do women and seamen really mix? those ladies in the picture sure seem happy about getting seaman all over themelves.

i can only hope the seamen don't get lost in the dark tubes and tunnels of boston and can find their goal here inside the city.
