The Globe reports today on moves taken by the Boston Licensing commission to put the kibosh on an "ultimate fighting" event scheduled for this Saturday at the Roxy. Apparently, the sport -- in which fighters in caged rings face off kicking and punching each other -- "is not something the city of Boston is going to sanction" according to the Globe:
Patricia Malone, head of Boston's licensing department, told the Boston Herald on Tuesday. "The people go wild when someone is out on their back with blood pouring from God knows where."The fighting is "extremely dangerous," she said, and "incites the crowd. It's definitely a public safety issue."
Ultimate fighting is not banned in Boston nor Massachusetts as a whole and is even regulated by the state Boxing Commission. Nonetheless, it seems the city would rather lose the cash the six-hundred ticket holders likely have spent to the Taunton location the fight has been moved. Apparently having a bunch of bloody guys walking around is that unusual to Downtown.
