Back in April Bostonist went down to Fenway for the first day-game experience of the season, hoping that maybe even with a torrential and biting cold downpour the Red Sox would hold out for clear(er) skies and get the game in. After all, Bostonist didn't wake up early to work from home for nothing. It was only a little rain, right? Wrong. It was a LOT of rain. The game was rained out and postponed till today.
What a game it was at that! For those of you stuck behind a desk, without a radio, mlb.com, or a tiny portable tv, Bostonist will spoil it for you - the Red Sox won thanks to a walk-off 3-run dinger thanks to Big Papi. Maybe all the hot salsa he's been touting in Comcast commercials worked its way into his bat this afternoon? Whatever it was, thank goodness for our Papi. By the way, does anyone else think David Ortiz sort of looks like Esther Rolle? "Florida" from Good Times? Just sayin'.
On a slightly related note - this was the second day game this season where the Sox won on a walk-off homer. The previous one was against the Oakland A's thanks to our captain, Jason Varitek. Bostonist remembers that day as being one of the few unbelievably gorgeous days we Bostonians have experienced so far this spring. Today's weather, a close #2 if not better. Another unbelievable similarity is the fact that in both of these days, where gorgeous weather and dramatic walk-off home-run victories were blessed upon us, Bostonist possesed tickets to both games. Was Bostonist at either of these games? No. You see, he is a truly faithful (and, evidently, mildly retarded) employee and made sure to show up for work, forsaking the truancy that he probably should have participated in.
Let it be known that lessons have been learned, and someone's priorities have now been set straight. Never again will work interfere in matters as important as this.
