What Are You Doing Tonight?

plungeintodeath.jpgHey, remember when Bostonist was all "Whooo! Spoooooon!" and advised you to pick up tickets for their show? Bostonist sure hopes you did, because their Paradise show tonight is sold out, although craigslist tickets seem less jacked-up insane than normal. However, when your songs are on The O.C. and your album debuts at #40 on the Billboard charts, you can't sleep on buying tickets. Thanks, Josh Schwartz!
There's a sold-out WFNX/The Boston Phoenix "Best Music Poll" show at the Bank Of America Harborlight Pavilion (Bostonist will refer to this venue as "Harborlights", you know, the one by the river) with The Killers, Interpol, (and not to be a total gossip, but it makes sense after The Boston Phoenix ran an "out" column that basically amounted to Interpol is playing at MY HOUSE! IN MY BATHTUB!), Louis XIV, and Robbers On High Street. If you or yours must desperately go to the show, may Bostonist make a suggestion? Forgo the insane ticket prices. The Killers and Interpol don't really "put on a show" and they're not that good-looking. Go down to Harborlights, bring a picnic, and lurk by the harbor while making-out. One of the true Boston summer pleasures, and Boston can't wait to hang out around the upcoming Lyle Lovett show.
Also sold-out, also rock-related: the Nick Hornby reading at the Coolidge Corner theater tonight. Will the new book, A Long Way Down be more on the side of About A Boy or How To Be Good?
So what can you do tonight, dear reader? Bostonist says go for sweaty dance-y fun. The other half of the "Best Music Poll", the Landsdowne Street section, isn't sold out. Ten Dollars gets you into Avalon, Axis, and Bill's Bar, and you have your choice of bands, like The Dresden Dolls, The Futureheads, keepin' it Rhody rapper Sage Francis, and the highly recommended sexy guitar squall of Autolux. (Bostonist has barely touched on all the bands playing there, actually.)
Across the river, Zuzu's has their Electrosocial night with Plunge Into Death and Cyanide Valentine, with dancing provided by DJ MicL Pvtn. It's your best bet, and fun is guaranteed. Oh, and of course, there are arty noisy options over at Great Scott, so kick it over there after Hornby-time:We Are Wolves, Coughs, and Where Are You From? Are You In School? (Guess which band is from Boston, Boston.)
