Like a little kid who just got the crap kicked out of him in an after-school fight, the Sox are going to try and get one good jab to the face of our new bully, the Cubs, before hightailing it off home. And maybe, hopefully, Mommy's there to tell us how wicked awesome we are as she band-aids us up.
What do you take from game 2 of the series? Trot playing like a man posessed? Manny *finally* coming through with a RBI? Wade Miller with a so-so performance? Not much to take away, other than the fact that it was a closer game. Trot played well, but not in the clutch, flying out to end the game. Manny came up with a double in the 9th, but what else has he done? No sign of a home-run since May 22. Wade Miller is handed a 4-0 lead, but lets the Cubs get back into it. So the Red Sox are underachieving. Don't think that it's going unnoticed either. Trot Nixon, who has previously been known as "the Volcano", erupted with his take on the losing trend, and Theo has calmly mentioned that unless things turn around - "... what we have right now isn't working. It's clear. It's my fault and we have to fix it. The status quo is not really acceptable." If there are trades, who would go? ... A question Bostonist doesn't want to touch with a ten foot (Pesky) pole. The Nation will just have to wait and see.
Until then, until they come back home to lick our wounds post-ass-whoopin', the Red Sox will play to salvage a single win and, maybe, some pride.
