Mitt's aspirations to be President of the United States seem to keep surfacing in the local news. Today he has finally confirmed that he is in fact testing the waters, but we'll have to wait until the fall for a firm bid. This mcuh-quoted utterance -
"If someone said, well, you know, the governor's testing the national waters, that's a fair characterization," Romney said. "But I'm planning on running for governor. Time will tell, I'll make a final decision and an announcement in the fall, and we'll go from there."- confirmed that he was investigating a potential run for the presidency. It’s not really news. It was pretty clear two weeks ago when Romney said that he would endorse a gubernatorial bid by Lt. Gov. Healey if he didn't run for governor in 2006 that he left the door open. We were pretty sure that with a trip to South Carolina in February, the Whitehouse was on Mitt's mind.
Last night we heard the news that Ted Kennedy was bashing Mitt's ability to run for President. Howard Dean is on the bandwagon too and was already selling a Romney Flip-Flop on abortion rights at a Boston fundraiser. In case you forgot, they're already polling his favorable ratings and crunching the numbers: the suggestion is not to run. With today's op-ed in the Herald getting less attention than a bid for the White House, Mitt will probably be in the 2006 race for governor and isn't going to the big dance, yet. There are plenty of years left in that brushed back head of hair; it's sure to stand up to the challenge.
