The chances are high that Celtics fans will be surprised who the Men in Green choose in tomorrow night's draft. Last year's draft provided the C's with a trio of players that managed to contribute more than their fair share this past season, Al Jefferson being the most standout of the three. Many look at him as being a future NBA All-Star and the backbone of the Celtics future. Delonte West showed that in time he could be a sufficient point-guard and Tony Allen put in some minutes but didn't have as much of a standout year.
In a recent press conference Danny Ainge mentioned that he won't be looking to draft by position and will not worry about what the roster is on the day of the draft. Having said that, it's obvious that "the best available player" method is what the C's are looking to employ tomorrow night. The first choice for Boston is at number 18, and according to some predictions, Roko Ukic, a 6'5" PG from Croatia, has been getting looked at by Celtics scouts. If he did indeed join us in Boston, probably after another year of European play, he would continue the long, storied Celtic tradition of playing big, goofy-looking, (sometimes ugly) white dudes. Other picks for the C's include numbers 50 and 53 in the second round. Whoever is left down there shouldn't be any more of a surprise than who is taken at 18, but Bostonist is secretly pulling for Angelo Gigli, a PF from Italy, purely for shameless comedic purposes.
