Call it the Garden, or Gahden if you Prefer

gahden.jpgJuly 1, 2005: A new year, a new era. Sure, January 1 is the first day of the year according to the Gregorian calendar. In Boston the fiscal year turns the page to FY 06 today. The States budget year coincides with the beginning of a new year for the many colleges and universities around the Hub. Put that together with it being a Friday before a long weekend, Bostonist is digging on a little celebration. But it’s not just the "new year" and Independence day that is spreading good cheer around the office today. The Garden is back, well sort of.

The Garden is back in name only, now with 50% more corporate sponsorship. Still the Shawmut/Fleet Center building, but the name has changed. Just after we finally got used to the Celtics playing in the FleetCenter, TD Banknorth has taken over the naming rights starting today. So it's back to the Garden, the TD Banknorth Garden. We would be used to the Bruins playing there if the Bruins were actually playing. Speaking of which, has anyone heard the verdict on the Stanley Cup for 2005? Whatever the future of the NHL, Bostonist is happy to welcome Green and Gomes to the Celtics line up for next year.

Don't put an "s" after Boston Garden (nor after Public Garden or Boston Common). It marks you as a non-local.
