If you've had the desire to get your groove on with such Cambridge notables as Mayor Mike Sullivan, State Senator Jarrett Barrios, or former Labor Secretary and erstwhile Gubernatorial contender Robert Reich, has the City of Cambridge got an event for you! At 7:00 on Friday, July 29th, the City will be hosting its annual (rescheduled)Dance Party. This is a chance for you to get down with hundreds of other area residents right smack-dab in the middle of Mass. Ave in Central Square (in front of City Hall). Bostonist doesn't actually know if Barrios or Reich will be there, but the image of the tall and dashing Senator dancing with the short, stalky Secretary really gives us the giggles.
According to the press release, this is strictly a family event, so put away your booty-pants and forgo the grinding this evening:
Each year, residents of all ages, from toddlers to teens, adults to seniors stop by for a little dancing on the street! And once again this year, hometown favorite DJ Joey Demers will be spinning the tunes, offering a varied selection that appeals to our diverse audience.
Or, as the Globe aptly describes that "diverse audience":
It's turning into an annual gig for DJ Joey Demers, who has the tough task of figuring out what will get Grandma moving while keeping the young 'uns from revolting -- and vice versa.
The event was originally scheduled to take place this past Friday, but was rescheduled due to the weather. Unfortunately, Bostonist can't be there because we have tickets that night to see the Sox take on the AL wildcard-leading Twins. But hopefully, one of our readers can snap a few shots -- extra points to anyone who can catch Noam Chomsky bringing it on.
