The Globe reports that a pair of 77-year-old hustlers took Marshalls for over $16,000 in a classic scam. On 80 separate occassion they would buy expensive and cheap suits, switch the tags on them and return the cheap ones. The duo pleaded innocent on Friday to felony larceny and false pretense in a consumer transaction.
Even though these seniors spread out their operation among stores in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, it shows how easily anyone can make a quick score off Marshalls or most other stores for that matter. It didn't hurt that no one would suspect grumpy old men of larceny.
