42 Courses and $350 Later...

rwlogo05.jpgMark your calendar (and make reservations) for August 22nd through 26th, because it’s restaurant week in Boston! Restaurant week is an August tradition where many of the higher end restaurants in Boston offer a prix fixe menu in order to lure in new customers. To those of you who didn't already book your restaurant, the official site lists the current availability of all the restaurants participating. The unofficial site is arguably better. Those of you looking for a $30 dinner at Hamersley's Bistro or Icarus will have to wait until next year, because they’re already sold out.

Don't despair! Lots of great new locations are still open like The Commonwealth Hotel's Great Bay or The Blue Room and other spots have added space to accommodate hungry diners. Lesser known restaurants, like Grotto and Bambara, are looking to attract more customers by offering their three-course prix fixe menus all month long. At $20.05 for lunch and $30.05 for dinner these are generally great prices for three-course-meals at these high end restaurants, but look at the menu first! Bostonist would pity the fool that shelled out thirty bucks for a $12.00 Croma pizza.

You can catch Bostonist at Spire, Anthem and and Oceana, in the Long Wharf Marriott (just behind Tia's). Reviews to come in late August and early September. Restaurant Week is one of the best dining weeks in the Hub, there is one thing that Bostonist thinks might make it better: Tax Free Dining. Anyone think Mitt might let us get away with a Meal Tax Holiday? A fixed-price, tax-free meal would be the closest thing in Boston to a free lunch.

having tried bambara for my birthday, i found there are reasons why it's lesser known. it was really expensive for pretty much eating in a bar, and the menu was not particularly impressive. the food was fine, but for like $25-30 for an entree, you had better be blown away. i've had dinners at hamersly's and oleana that were cheaper and about a thousand times better.

Bambara did look a little pricey. I agree when you get to the high end of food you really gotta start looking for quality.

Icarus is open for lunch during Restaurant Week so try that since dinner times are sold out.
