The Stones Take the Field

rw_gs_studyofmickmedium.jpgBostonist first told you all about The Rolling Stones coming into town and playing at Fenway Park back in April; the authorities that be tried to keep it on the down low, but it was pretty much set that they'd be here. Well, the weekend of Mick, Keith and the boys is finally here as they take the stage in Sunday and Tuesday night performances in the Sox outfield, with the random addition of the Black Eyed Peas as the opening act. For those that paid equivalent to a small down payment on a home for these tickets, enjoy the show. For those fans who couldn't afford the seats, mosey on down to Newbury Fine Arts (at 29 Newbury Street) to see guitarist Ronnie Wood's work. These paintings, mixed medias, and drawings will be on display until August 29; there is an open party tomorrow night from 6:30-8:30p.m., but you won't meet Wood unless you throw down some cash and buy a piece of art, which start in the $4,000 range.

The Boston Globe reports that there are already "whispers" of which band will take the Fenway stage in Summer 2006; according to their sources, U2 has recently been in negotiations with concert organizer Clear Channel Communications about playing two nights next year. Bostonist will keep you posted on whether Bono and the Edge will be visiting next August.

One of Wood's drawings of Mick is shown above. Not bad, huh?
