Despite recent surges in population (due to the start of the academic year) and some violent events in the not-too-distant past, Allston has not, in fact, been declared a disaster area (as opposed to New Orleans, shown at right). But these similarities are exactly what makes Boston's own "Rock City" the perfect place to host three nights' worth of benefit shows for Katrina relief and recovery Great Scott on Commonwealth Avenue is the venue for the shows, which will let young and old alike subtly bounce (because Bostonist knows that New Englanders' frosty exteriors don't allow for literal "shaking of thangs") on Sunday, Sept. 11th, Monday, Sept. 12th. and Tuesday, Sept. 13th.
The crop currently set to perform offers a lil' something for all, and includes Certified Bananas, Read Yellow, The Volume, Frank Smith, Duncan Wilder Johnson, and Capital Radio. Bostonist is excited in particular for Tuesday night's finale, featuring Night Rally, The Lot Six, The Chainletter, Bon Savants, AND Emergency Music (the night's only
medal contenders...they're up for two Boston Music Awards).
Even without Kanye West to provide the political analysis, your ten bucks will be well spent on this event, both for the bands and the cause.
