Boston's Own "Sports Guy" Book Tour

Now I Can Die In Peace.
It would be a complete lie if Bostonist said the Bill Simmon's column on ESPN.com's Page 2 wasn't a catalyst in our becoming more involved with this blogging + sports + (pathetic) attempts at buffoonery being funny endeavor. The weekly dispatches of obscure pop-culture references entwined with what are essentially rants about the sports world are one of the more common shared pleasures among the true, hard-core, sports fans (that spend their 40 hours a day in front of a computer screen).

This week, we see the Sports Guy return to New England on the tail end of a signing tour for his just-released book, Now I Can Die In Peace. The schedule for this weekend's appearances:

  • Thursday, September 29: Worcester, MA; College of the Holy Cross -- 7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, September 30: Boston, MA (Kenmore Square); Barnes & Noble at Boston University -- 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 1: Boston, MA; The Souvenir Store -- 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, Oct. 3: Boston, MA; Borders Book Shop (DTX) -- 12:30 p.m.
Bostonist has already devoured half the book, and for $25, it's a winner. The running dvd-commentary-like footnotes are already worth at least $10 of that. If you're lucky, maybe you'll run into Sports Guy's mom at local lunch spots like Bostonist has ... not once, but twice this week. True story.

nothing against joel, but bill simmons imitators all over the country are pretty much ruining sports journalism trying to use his throwing up in my mouth, good times, and other phrases simmons uses over and over again. i think simmons is mostly inspirational because he's done so well with medium talent that it seems like anybody could get involved in online sportswriting.
