This morning Bostonist heard a report that the Red Line had been closed underground from Kendall to JFK due to an accident at Park Street. Details have still not become clear but it has been reported that “a person got caught under a train.” Here at Bostonist we tend to read into vague and slightly illogical statements like that. We know of three ways to get under a train, pushing, accidental pushing, and self placement. According to the AP wire this morning, the person who had been “trapped” under the train was removed and transported to a local hospital. We know they probably took them surface by ambulance but couldn’t it be quicker to just take the train one stop and get off at MGH? The T has at least one stretcher per train, though Bostonist has never seen one used. Perhaps we'll know more on the evening news.
update:
According to the Boston Globe some bystanders got sick, perhaps leading to closure of both sides. Bostonist thinks it might have been a pretty gruesome collision if people are getting ill watching it.
Train traffic had been replaced by bus service in both directions during rush hour this morning. Bostonist did what we do every morning when we hear of traffic being re-routed on the MBTA lines: we visited badtransit.com. Generally they are reporting stories with which we can relate in a transit focused site through a network of "spotters" and "T-watch" reporters. To our surprise it wasn't a story about the MBTA expecting one bus to shuttle a whole six car Red Line train's worth of people from Kendall along the Red Line route. Rather it was a plea for help. BadTransit is looking for assistance. As they claim on their site; they’re all for "good transit" but apparently the bad transit is enough to keep the current editors a little overwhelmed. But don’t all run over to them at once and forget your friends here. Bostonist is always looking for good contributors.
