Bostonist is spending our holiday Monday morning dining on a slice of delicious humble pie. We were at Fenway on Friday night to watch the mighty Red Sox fall to the Whiteys in the "Battle of the Colored Sox." Two years in a row of going deep into the post-season and a brutal 30-games-in-30-days schedule to end the season was more than enough to do in our team. They were spent, beat up, and everyone could tell. To run into a team as white hot as the White Sox spells nothing but doom - plus, they got their late-season losing spells out of the way well before the second season started. It looked bad (again, we'll admit) but just how could anyone count out this Red Sox team?
The White Sox didn't. They never let up, never looked past the Red Sox (unlike the "fans" in their city) and drove a stake through the heart of Red Sox Nation before any sort of comeback could be had.
The silver lining in how things played out? The Red Sox were beaten ... actually they were dismantled ... by a clearly superior team. However, they did not throw the games away. Other than one fluke play, there were none of the Buckneresque meltdowns that plagued our team for 86 years. Looking back on the season, many have opined that it was unbelievable that they even finished with 95 wins, without a proven closer, without their ace, while riding the arms of five "number three" pitchers. We have heard it said, "To have gotten that far is lucky". Bostonist agrees.
The White Sox are looking at starting the ALCS tomorrow night in the South Side against the winner of the Yankees - Angels series. A travel-weary team will trudge their way into Comiskey US Cellular Park, which bodes well for the Sox, who will send the seemingly unstoppable Jose Contreras to the bump for game 1.
Despite the fact that they're the ones who dismissed our team, Bostonist will be rooting for the White Sox from the comfort of a couch. If we can do it, so can you.

Lastly - the Dunkin Dugout seats are VASTLY underrated. That last game of the season was unquestionably the most fun and comfort Bostonist had all season long.
