Wednesday Webcasts: Bostonist Rates Open Source

opensource-thumb.jpgWhen you listen to the commanding words of Bostonist and you subscribe to a podcast we expect you to listen to everything they put out. Few times do podcasts like Open Source come around that put out so much content that even we can't keep up. Hosted by Christopher Lydon and produced by WGBH this is actually a real radio show that is also provided on the web.

3-0_4251.gifOpen Source is a very serious and timely podcast that covers areas from Race and Class in America to God 2.0. Each episode is always full of experts and scholars who give good contrast to the some times colorful callers who also comment on the issues at hand. New episodes can be released up to three to four times a week and are mostly about an hour long. As interesting as Open Source is Bostonist has other things to do in the week.

Professionally produced in a studio it sounds wonderful but Christopher Lydon often does come off with a "radio voice" as if he was from some kind of morning zoo show. The topics are always interesting as well but can be very dry and if you're not interested in the topic you might find your self sound asleep. For a show produced to be listened to nation wide it also has a good deal about the Boston area, from callers to local artists and sports.
