Jack-O-Lantern-O-Rama

Bostonist-o-lantern_2005.jpgThis weekend the City of Boston and Life is Good hope that 30,000 carved up pumpkins show up on the Boston Common. This Saturday, October 22, carved pumpkins, or pumpkins to carve can be brought to the Common with a votive candle to be included in the record breaking attempt. Keene, NH owns the current record of most lit jack-o-lanterns in one place. They managed to get 28,952 pumpkins lit and in one place to seize the title. Bostonist has been told that people in the Hub have all intentions to smash that record. The pumpkins will be piled upon scaffolding into a giant pyramid. Boston will be fighting in a head-to-head battle with Keene, NH who’s event (the Premier Community Event of the region) happens Saturday as well.

As Bostonist is frantically finishing our masterpiece, other festival goers will be taking part in the family-friendly activities (face-painting, magic shows, pie eating contests, and a hay maze) and four great live bands. A costume parade, open to all ages, starts from the information center by the Park Street T stop and travels through the common at 3 p.m. Even though it’s open to all ages we’d like to suggest family friendly costumes as well. Proceeds from sale of food and wares at the festival will benefit Camp Sunshine. To boil it down: carve a pumpkin, light it on fire, put Boston on the map, and ultimately help kids.
