Webcasts slowly mature over time like fine wines. Youthful and edgy producers slowly find what works and doesn't work for them. If you look back at some of the first few episodes of the more established podcasts, you'll often find them very different from their current incarnation. Bostonist understands these growing pains and has tried to avoid reviewing shows before they hit their stride. Yet when DriveTime came across our radar, we could not help but review it to show others how incredibly cool it is and to help it continue to grow and prosper.
Ravi Jain commutes every day from Jamaica Plain to Allston and he's decided to use that time to be more productive. With his video camera mounted to his dashboard, he has started DriveTime, a weekly show hosted in his car. Occasionally accompanied by his wonderfully cooperative and beautiful wife (she's kicking herself for marrying a technophile now), Ravi has ten half-hour drives to and from work a week, or five hours of 'studio time' to make his weekly episodes.
Lets be honest. Filming yourself driving and talking is not the most interesting thing to do and if anything, it's a good way to get killed. Luckily Ravi knows this and has put a call out for guests. If anyone would like to be on DriveTime and needs a ride to or from Allston or Jamaica Plain, simply get in contact with Ravi and tell him Bostonist sent you. He's even posted a map of his commute online so you can figure out where to meet him.
At this point, the show is not of the highest quality, but with such a unique and interesting premise along with a very engaging host and co-host, the sky is the limit for this show. Bostonist looks forward to a long run of Ravi's show, which will certainly add a unique twist to this already wonderful city.
