As The Boston Globe reported in late October, "Greater Boston's once-sizzling home sales have cooled so much this fall that realtors are reverting to a description not heard in a decade: 'Buyer's market.'" (Bostonist would link to the article, except that The Globe has made a large portion of their archived stories "available for purchase" only...even though they might have more pressing issues to address.)
Even with "the chill," residents of Somerville and specifically Davis Square can't deny an influx of yuppie homebuyers and rising prices. Bostonist cites the children flooding our doorstep on Halloween night for trick-or-treating or the European luxury vehicles and SUVs parked on the streets as strong evidence that the neighborhood, it's-a-changing.
We take comfort in the fact that, even though Bostonist can't afford to buy anything in the greater Somerville area, we can still drink there. And for free, natch.
Tomorrow, Saturday, November 5, Downtown Wine & Spirits in Davis Square is having its first annual wine tasting bonanza. The festivities run from 12-4 p.m., with a flyer promising many bottles of wine open for smelling, swishing and spitting. In addition, they're offering a 25% discount to anyone who buys a whole case of wine. Which is a great break for those of us looking to drown our sorrows because we can't afford that ridiculously priced luxury loft.
