B. Good is Very Good

logobeggo.gifThose of you who are worried about your girlish figures but want to eat french fries and the like need to head over to b.good, the Back Bay restaurant with the tagline: "real.food.fast." Located on Dartmouth Street right past the Back Bay station, b.Good is fast food for the calorie-conscious, and is one of Bostonist's favorite lunchtime spots. All of the menu items are up on a board, which lists the nutritional value of everything. While the idea of fat grams listed next to an order of fries doesn't sound too appealing, the information isn't too scary since all food is basically healthy. (Those french fries, by the way, are baked and only have four grams of fat.) You can have your burger (lean 93% ground beef, turkey or veggie), fries, and shake (made with non-fat frozen-yogurt and skim milk) and not feel like an elephant as you stumble your way back to your cubicle for the afternoon.

Now, Bostonist was the biggest skeptic of them all when it came to the idea of healthy fast food, but we were converted a few months ago by a co-worker. We love b.good even more now after checking out the history of the restaurant. Two friends found themselves in college and were always looking for cheap, good, fast food, but the options were lacking . . . so they decided to open up their own place. They even have a real company mascot, Uncle Faris, who they claim is "the epitome of what b.good tries to be... different, real, honest, and sometimes crazy."

b.good has been open since 2004 and is opening its new Harvard Square location on Dunster Street next Monday, November 14. According to a recent Herald article, the Cambridge locale will be smaller and not feature any cold sandwiches, which is a travesty since the Asian BBQ chicken sandwich is a delight. The owners claim the new storefront will have a more homey feel, since the original store "looks too much like a Starbucks." Try them out judge for yourself. Can healthy fast food really be good (pun definitely intended)?
