It is Time to Get Active, Interactive That is...

Occasionally Bostonist likes to hit our readers with a little bit of cul-cha (culture), but please don't think that this is your Granny recommending that you read some more Patricia Cornwell novels and join her for Bridge at the community center, or (in the case of some our readers) your professor forcing you to attend a production of "Midsummer Night's Dream" - no, no, no. Bostonist loves you more than that.

We are all about promoting interactive art to you and so we recommend that you check out what is going on with Glowlab: Open Lab at Art Interactive in Central Square. This is actually art that you participate in, not just experience like the NYC Gates project - so prepare yourself. The Open Lab is a "a nine-week-long experiment [where Art Interactive] has invited artists affiliated with Glowlab, a network of psychogeographers, to use the Central Square neighborhood as the site of their research and fill the exhibition space with the results of their investigations."

Not interested yet? Just wait, here is Bostonist's MUST ATTEND events going on during the Glowlab residence:

1. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12TH 2PM - 4PM: whether/weather workshop
Launch a balloon with a secret message up into the sky. Led by Morgan Schwartz.

2. SUNDAY NOVEMBER 13TH, 12PM - 6PM ALL DAY
TOBY KIM LEE invites you to write a story with 100 other people. (With a follow-up on SATURDAY DECEMBER 3, 4PM - 6PM A reading of the story)

3. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 19TH, 2PM - 4PM: Imaginary Ballooning Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt through Cambridge about a doomed 19th century balloon expedition. Led by Holly Tavel.

4. SATURDAY DECEMBER 10TH, 12PM - 5PM: DIY Wearable Challenge
Make an interactive outfit from Cambridge trash and discarded electronics Led by Jonah Brucker-Cohen and Katherine Moriwaki. Perhaps you could attend this event in your newly purchased Stella McCartney designed clothing and prove that there is more to Boston fasion than ribbon belts, polos, and colorful khakis. Bostonist is concerned that our technical skills may hinder the creation of some of our fantastic ideas - but we endeavor to be there all the same and create some magnificent.

Those are just a few of the events that are planned in the next five weeks. Bostonist is also interested to see what happens with Sal Randolp's Open Sound Exchange, a 24-hour internet radio stream, which will be a synthesis of sounds he collects from around the Cambridge area, which reminds us a bit of a radio call-in show in the 70s that we learned about this summer. The premise was that listeners could contribute their own sounds and the "DJ" mixed them into a kind of white noise - Bostonist cannot recall the artist's name and Google is finally failing us - but basically know that it was a really fantastic concept.

If none of this gets your blood flowing, there is still time to catch Ansel Adams @ the MFA, Degas @ the Sackler, William Koch's (international businessman, America's Cup winner, and MIT grad) hodge podge"Things I Love" exhibition @ the MFA, Thomas Hirschhorn @ the ICA, and Joseph Beuys @ Mass MoCA.
