Being a hopeless romantic, one of Bostonist's guilty pleasures is reading the missed connections section of craigslist. Originally meant to help flash-in-the-pan flirtations develop into lasting booty-call relationships, missed connections has become the catch-all home for messages to unknown or unseen parties, ranging from the you-were-
hot-but-I-didn't-have-
the-gumption-to-talk-
to-you posts to more cryptic fare. Closest to Bostonist's heart, though, is the pining letter to a loved one who has gone away. Why do we mention this today? Because one of Bostonist's old loves, one for whom we have kept a flame burning, despite other interceding romances, is finally coming back, for better or worse: The Green Line is returning to Lechmere.
Yes, it's true. Starting Saturday morning, the crucial rail link between the middlebrow bars of Commonwealth Avenue and the middlebrow shopping experience that is the Cambridgeside Galleria will be restored, returning greater Boston to balance and harmony. As is frequently the case when old flames show up, seemingly strong relationships can be tested. This will surely be the case with Bostonist and the Red Line, a mercurial and impetuous lover, to say the least. We can't even speculate on what will become of the poor Orange Line, whom we've been seeing on the side lately. In any event, our transport love life is about to get interesting.
