Last week the teams-named-for-
historical-episodes battled it out in Foxboro, and the New England Revolution put Chicago’s Fire out. Bostonist was left thinking to ourselves wouldn’t it have been hilarious if the “molasses flood” put the fire out. Well, that and it’s like the World Series of soccer. Well, almost the World Series of soccer, if we discount the World Cup, Euro Cup, the European Premier leagues, the South American leagues, and just about any other soccer league on the planet—but maybe that’s unfair because they play football not soccer. In baseball terms, the MLS Cup is like the AA playoffs. If our beloved Red Sox double-a team, the Sea Dogs were to actually win the Eastern League championship...That would be worth a mention on this little corner of the internet. The MLS Cup has grabbed a bit of mention locally but if you check out yahoo's soccer page, a mention of the Cup isn't even listed on the front page. So much for World Series status.
The other boys from Foxboro, the New England Revolution, will be taking on the Los Angeles Galaxy in Frisco, Texas (Yeeeee Haaaaw) this Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm EST on ABC. The Revs are led by forward Taylor Twellman, who was named MLS MVP on Thursday. Twellman has 17 goals and 7 assists in 25 games this season, leading the Revs to the finals for the first time since 2002.
If the Revs are to take home the MLS Cup, they will have to beat the same squad, the L.A. Galaxy, which eked out a victory against them in 2002 when the finals were held in lovely Foxboro. The Revs will be up against some good players on the Galaxy Squad but hopefully they won’t be star struck. We can only imagine the puns sportscasters will be making Sunday evening, if they cover it. Bostonist can already hear the “Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.” chants starting now.
There is a good chance that re-elected mayor Thomas Menino might pull out all the stops if the Revs manage to win... We could see duck boats, a parade down Newbury Street, and even parade-onlookers if the Revs can become 2005 champions. Bostonist can only hope. Or not hope. Depends if you dig soccer.

Democratic Primary Debate at WGBH: Transcript Time!

Not bad. I wished our international stars like Shalrie Joseph and Avery John weren't being compared to the Edgar Martinez and Hanley Ramirez might-be-coulda-been players of the AA Sea Dogs, but any coverage is good coverage, I suppose.
Appreciated.
