Pigging Out at Eagles Deli

250px-Hamburger_sandwich.jpgEver have one of those raging hangovers where all your body craves (besides hydration, Advil, and a promise to never drink again) is greasy food? Well, Bostonist found themselves in this predicament on Sunday afternoon and decided to head down to Eagles Deli in Brighton’s Cleveland Circle. For any Boston College student or alum, you’re probably familiar with this deli/fast food joint where you can get anything your hungover heart desires. It was ranked “The Second Best Place in the World to Pig Out” by the Travel Channel a few years ago and that pretty much sums up Eagles.

After ordering at the counter, the wait for those cheese fries (insert your personal favorite fat laden food here) can be what seems like forever as the usual 2-person team takes care of all customers over the grill. The menu features such fine cuisine as hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, fried anything, wings, and even some attempts at salads, which Bostonist wouldn’t necessarily recommend. Eagles is best know for their array of burgers, which range from a quarter pounder (Kid’s burger) to the famous “Sean Reilly burger” which weighs in at 6 1/2 pounds of meat. Named after a past BC student who used to throw back 12 egg omelettes, Eagles created the Reilly burger, which is topped with 1/4 lb of cheese and 5 lbs of french fries. If you finish the $25 meal in the allotted 2hr. 30 min time limit, the meal is free and they hang a Polaroid of you on the wall next to Reilly himself.

If that sounds a little too much, you can always take it down a notch with the Chillerama burger, 5 lbs of meat, 20 slices of cheese and 18 slices of bacon. If you can choke down this bad boy in an hour, the $50 plate is free and of course, you get your photo on the wall. And for those newbies out there who can’t stomach that, there is the Godzilla Burger, a 1 lb burger with 4 slices of cheese and 1lb of fries. Compared to the other two, the Godzilla sounds like a walk in the park.

Bostonist suggests that the next time your body is wrecked from going out, wreck it even further by going to Eagles. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, but if it means getting your photo on the wall for eating mass quantities, please sign us up. (For the record: we could barely finish the Kid’s burger. Lame, we know.)
