Coffee Connoisseur of the Evening

House-Party-Photo.jpg.jpeBostonist loves a good cup of joe in the morning. The bender we took sipping on our “light and sweet” Dunkin Donuts iced coffee this summer has left us looking for something a little more home made. Since our birthday rolled around and someone gave us the gift of a coffee grinder we’ve been grinding our own. We like to keep it local, and a little liberal, we’ve been sticking with the Equal Exchange. Operating out of a headquarters in West Bridgewater, about 45 minutes south of “Bean Town,” Equal Exchange has an expanding world-wide network of farmer co-ops. They’re trying to prove a point that you can still buy good coffee at a good price and ensure workers rights and environmental sustainability.

With weather forcasts dropping into the twentieswe're getting the shivers. We know of two good things to warm us up: schnapps and hot beverages. Two great tastes that go great together. After we dropped a little Kahlua in our coffee we started thinking, what if we had a “it’s cold outside” party? Equal Exchange apparently beat us to the punch on that one. We were thinking about more about peppermint schnapps in Hot Cocoa, they’re more about the dissemination of information. Bostonist can see no reason not to combine the two. You can get in touch with Equal Exchange Corporate (seems like an oxymoron) and ask them for the House Party Kit. It gives you a timeline for planning, suggestions, and even free coffee (not to mention free stickers). There’s the whole commerce angle of the House Party Kit that we’re not so keen on…but after a couple whisky and coffee drinks your guests will be loose enough to watch a video and they’ll want to know where they can get their hands on some of their own Equal Exchange coffee. Let us know if you are making a field trip down to West Bridgewater, Bostonist may want to tag along. We’re sure they have an overcaffeinated workplace.
