Harvard-Yale: The Aftermath and the Glory

24 hours later and our bodies are still recovering, but oh what a day for college football, or at least for tailgating.

Bostonist made the two-hour trek south to watch the 130th (or more) match-up of the two prestigious universities' football teams. Taking off from Cambridge at the ungodly Saturday morning hour of 7:45, we made good time and arrived just as the tailgating was really getting under way (although unconfirmed reports say some students had set up shop as early as 8:00 AM). With at least 52,213 fans packed into Yale Bowl and the surrounding areas, good times were had.

U-Haul trucks lined the rows of student and alum tailgates, DJs played tracks both old and new, and kegs were tapped faster than the words "Go Crimson!" could be shouted from any Harvard undergrad in the vicinity. Although reports were published and statements were made by Yale officials, the tailgates kept going well past halftime. Yale Po were in full force though, ensuring that all festivities were at least somewhat tame. Bostonist only saw police demanding that partiers get down from their dancing platforms (aka the tops of U-Hauls) and the occasional tap on the shoulder of a drunken undergrad relieving himself a bit too publicly.

Although Bostonist didn't secure a ticket to the game, when we left about 10 minutes into 4th quarter, word on the street was that Harvard had lost. Two hours later we discovered that we had missed some of the best football of the season. Harvard ended up coming back from a 24-16 deficit in the 4th to tie the game with just over 2 minutes of play left. In a fantastic triple-overtime stunner, Harvard beat the Dogs 30-24. This year marks Harvard's fifth consecutive win over Yale.

Yah Harvard!
