The Best of Holiday Illumination, Part 2

One of the prime spots on the Somerville Christmas lights tour is Springfield Street between Concord Street and the Cambridge line. As luck would have it, (this) Bostonist lives right around the corner from there, so we went out a couple nights back to snap some pics. Unfortunately, our luck didn't extend to an innate ability to photograph lights at night without a tripod, so the photos below have two purposes (1) Showing people in other parts of the Boston area the Somervillionaire holiday spirit, and (2) showing teetolaers what Christmas lights look like to a booze-hound like Bostonist as we stumble home from another night of yule tide revelry.

Christmas Lights on Springfield Street
The undisputed Christmas-light champion of Springfield street. The structure for the nativity scene is actually erected in early October and plays host to a macabre Halloween display before being given over to holier purposes.

Creche on Springfield Street
Close-up of the creche. If you look closely, you can see that the whole nativity scene is safely behind chicken wire, a precaution taken as a result of last year's theft of the baby Jesus.

Johnnie's Foodmaster
After spending a cold evening enjoying Somervillle's Christmas lights, nothing is as welcoming as the glowing warmth of Johnnie's Foodmaster on Beacon Street, the fully-carpeted grocery store with a well-stocked beer and wine section.
