The Man

Brady 121305.jpgTom Brady’s week can be summed up best with a reference to eclectic director Quentin Tarantino’s latest film(s), the Kill Bills. In the movie Kill Bill Vol. 1, David Carradine’s character “Bill” finds his former cohort and lover, Uma Thurman’s character, Beatrice Kiddo (a.k.a., the Black Mamba, the most deadly woman in the world) in a small Midwestern town on the eve of her wedding. Beatrice, who has obviously left her former life as an assassin and relationship with Bill, was not looking to be found. She asks Bill, who conveniently shows up at her wedding rehearsal, “How did you find me? Bill responds simply “I’m the man.” Brady and the Pats provided a similarly emphatic response in their Sunday contest against the Buffalo Bills.

tx_sportsman.jpgIn the wake of being named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the year, Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady and company took care of business on Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park, New York against division rival, the Buffalo Bills 35-7.

Mr. Sportsman of the Year Brady and Patriots jumped out to a 1st quarter lead over the hated Bills and never looked back. Brady was superb outside of two interceptions thrown (on tipped balls), was 29-38 for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brady completed an astounding 76.3 percent of his passes to 8 different New England receivers. Brady also rushed 4 times for 17 yards, including a 3 yard touchdown scamper in the 1st period.

The Patriots were again bolstered by the running back duo of Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk. Dillon (22 rushes 102 yards, TD, 4 catches 29 yards) and Faulk (6 receptions for 71 yards, 5 rushes for 14 yards) provided a huge lift for the Pats offense in this contest, putting the defending champs into position to win yet another AFC East title.

The Pats defense was again outstanding, coming quite close to a shutout in Buffalo. The Pats held Buffalo scoreless for over 57 minutes until J.P. Losman connected with Josh Reed for a miracle garbage 51-yard touchdown pass with 2:36 remaining to make the score 35-7, which is the way that it ended.

Brady and the Pats performance this late in the NFL season was eerily reminiscent of recent Patriots winters, with the champs beginning to gel and preparing for what hopes to be another long and successful playoff run. New England was hoping that their victory over the Bills combined with a San Diego victory at home over the Miami Dolphins would solidify the AFC East for the Pats. But, in a staggering upset, the 14 point underdog Dolphins were able to pull of the upset in southern California, squeaking by the Chargers 23-21. The Pats will need one more victory or Miami loss to clinch a playoff berth. Tampa Bay comes into Foxboro this weekend with what expects to be a frenzied crowd that is ready to see the Patriots clinch the AFC East this coming Saturday for the 4th time in 5 years.

Its that time of year again, where the buzz is starting to grow around the Patriots and their post-season chances. The Pats will need Brady to contine to be "The Man", and Bostonist would prefer his 2005 season fate to mirror more of Beatrice Kiddo's at the end of the Kill Bill's, as opposed to Bill's.
